A Taipan’s Granddaughter Is a Taipan Herself—Nothing to Do But Be Successful: Carel Lee Tan

Most successful entrepreneurs especially in the Philippines must know Tan Yu and was a Chinese Filipino philanthropist and businessman who founded the Asiaworld Internationale Group and established the KTTI Foundation, which provided scholarships to and supported the education of thousands of young students.

In 1997, Forbes listed Tan Yu as the 7th wealthiest person in the world, estimating his net worth to be about $7 billion. He was placed amongst the top 10 in the world on the Forbes List of World Billionaires in 1997, making him the wealthiest man in the Philippines.

The Equally Determined Granddaughter

Another empowered woman, Carel Lee Tan, joins the roster of the Top 50 Rising Tigers in the Asia Pacific in the pilot issue of the new Business and Lifestyle magazine “Rising Tigers: Nation Builders.”

Carel Lee Tan, granddaughter of Tan Yu is the young CEO of Yes Carel, a Health platform and Beauty specializing in manufacturing and importing skincare and cosmetics K-Beauty products. Carel W International Corporation officially signed the contract with Dr. Elton See Tan, Chairman, President & CEO of The E-Hotels, Resorts & Residences Suites giving their Hotel Gift Shops the sole distributorship of all YesCarel imported products.

Carel Tan graduated from the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) with Bachelor of Architecture. She also studied at Harvard University, the Graduate School of Design (GSD), with a Concentration in Architecture. She was in the Honor society throughout her college career and was awarded Presidential Service award by His Excellency President Barack Obama. After graduating, she worked at JERDE, top architectural firm in Los Angeles, and eventually became the Consultant of the Jerde Partnership, Singapore.

With her family background, successful entrepreneurs and as an architectural designer, having grit is in her blood—she was able to compare and formulate a structure for true beauty. Design and beauty follow a simple rule: they must be achieved by taking the right steps. And YesCarel took this core philosophy that, instead of covering up their differences that make them who they are, they need to accentuate it and understand how to utilize their foundation – to build themselves better.

She is by the way the daughter of a beauty icon and former Miss Korea, Carolyn Lee Tan.

“We are proud to launch our high-quality skincare line as well as bring in authentic top tier Korean beauty products for our valued customers. We always promise the best shopping experience for a community that admires Korean skincare and cosmetics,” says Carel.

“It’s about providing the “Yes!” experience. We believe that self-care is not selfish; it is an important part of living a healthy and happy lifestyle,” she added.
